Faculty and Students of the Department of Japanese Exchange with the 2024 West Japan Student Delegation

Recently, the 2024 West Japan Student Visiting Delegation, comprising 20 teachers and students from Osaka University and Kyoto University, visited SWJTU as part of their China tour. The delegation’s visit was organized by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka and implemented by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). The initiative aimed to foster mutual understanding and friendship between young people from China and Japan through meaningful cultural exchanges. SWJTU was the delegation’s first stop in China.

Thirteen students from the Department of Japanese, including postgraduate students and undergraduates from the Class of 2021, participated in the exchange activities, with faculty member Yang Chi serving as the interpreter. The program began with an opening ceremony, where Xu Junhua, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at SWJTU, Zhou Jieru, Program Officer of the CEAIE, and Zhang Xixi, delegation leader and a young faculty member of Osaka University, delivered speeches. They emphasized the importance of cultural understanding, global competence, and the potential of this exchange to strengthen Sino-Japanese relations. Following the opening ceremony, students from both sides engaged in group discussions, sharing their experiences in language learning, cultural differences, and campus life. The lively discussions created an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, fostering deeper connections among the participants.

After a group photo, the delegation, along with SWJTU’s faculty and students, visited the State Key Laboratory of the Rail Transit Vehicle System. There, they listened to presentations on China’s advancements in high-speed rail, SWJTU’s contributions to railway research, and the university’s achievements in this field. The students also experienced the high-speed locomotive driving simulator, gaining firsthand insights into China’s rail transport innovations and SWJTU’s pivotal role in these developments. This exchange provided the students with a deeper appreciation of China’s technological progress and strengthened the bonds of friendship and understanding between Chinese and Japanese youth.
