Bridging Hearts: Fostering Cultural Exchange through the ‘Connections’ Chinese Corner

On December 8, the Department of International Chinese Education at the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) collaborated with the School of International Education to host a Chinese Corner activity themed “Connections” in the Foreign Language Salon. Under the guidance of Wang Hailing, students from the Department of International Chinese Education volunteered to assist international students from Southwest Jiaotong University in practicing Chinese and discussing the concept of “Coordinated Development.”

This Chinese Corner welcomed both Chinese and international students, offering a platform for language learning, global awareness, and cross-cultural communication. It also served to deepen cultural exchange, enhance mutual understanding, and promote Chinese culture on an international scale, effectively sharing China’s stories and perspectives.

‘Each individual is connected to one another through interrelationships that continue to function.’ We do not walk alone in the world, but rather in intricate connections with others, with all kinds of ties along the way. The theme, “Connection,” highlighted the interwoven relationships that shape our lives. Participants discussed how China’s development philosophy, centered on coordination and mutual benefit, is reflected in daily life. Through this dialogue, students explored topics like the role of China’s high-speed rail in fostering connections and made plans for future rail-themed tours.

Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. Many international students expressed enthusiasm for learning more about Chinese culture and high-speed rail through activities like this. Comments such as “I want more Chinese Corner activities” affirmed the success of the program and its role in fostering meaningful exchanges.

The idea of “Connection” reflects coordinated development within China, exemplified by high-speed railways linking cities and nations, and extends to fostering friendships and collaboration between China and the world. It embodies the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative and the cultural interactions between international and Chinese students.
