It is one of the significant components of Mou Zongsan’s Confucianism that science is to be developed by selfdenying. With this idea Mou Zongsan means essentially that, if we try to develop science out of Chinese cultural traditions, we ought to withdraw from the moral plane of cultural and life structures so as to develop the intelligent plane below it.
