Abstract:
A popular term of the trend of western futurism, medium fusion became another hot spot after “information society”, “the third wave” and “postindustrial society”. The newmedium technology and market factor are the leading and activating elements to influence development of media around the world while the planning and ownership of media involve different connotations and characters in medium fusion owing to different ideologies and national states of different countries. In response to medium soil and cultural identity in China, medium fusion presents plurality and complexity. An evaluative comment on medium fusion in terms of dialectic thinking concludes that medium fusion should be strictly defined to news production and effect of dissemination and any attempt to go beyond its defined connotation and nonrestrictive extension of it should be taken as absurd. The recent overstudy of medium should be regarded as a theoretical alienation and academic clamor.
