Abstract:
The Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art in May of 1942 was held to respond to and solve a number of problems that had risen in the new trends of literature and art in those days. It was an influential new trend of literature and art in Yan’an, which was initiated by “Lu Xun” under the special circumstances of “the Incident in Southern Anhui” and legitimized in the name of “Lu Xun”. It appeared that the trend exposed a conflict between the group of “AntiJapan by Literature and Art” headed by Ding Ling and that of “Lu Xun’s Literature and Art” headed by Zhou Yang. In essence, it showed an essential conflict between the May4th values of literary enlightenment represented by Lu Xun and revolutionary ideology. An a result, the opening of the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art and Mao Zedong’s delivery of his Speech at he Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art stopped and backspinned the trend of literature and art taking the May4th enlightenment as the end and turned it into a page of history to be remembered.
