Abstract:
With the founding of the Guiyi Army in the 5th year of the Imperial Title of Dazhong in the Tang Dynasty, Shazhou came to be the political centre of the Hexi. However, owing to the obstruction in the state of Liang by Tubo, the Guiyi Army had to get into touch with the Tang court by way of the Tiande Army for a time. Since the 4th year of the Imperial Title of Xiantong, a strange situation occurred in the Hexi where the two principalities, the Guiyi Army and the Government and High Command Barracks of the state of Liang coexisted. In the early days when the Government and High Command Barracks of the State of Liang was set up, it took a hostile attitude towards the Guiyi Army but the two sides improved their relationships since the imperial Title of Qianfu. The state of Liang continued to obtain military and material assistance till the times of the Five Dynasties. By the times of the Five Dynasties, it was because the Guiyi Army was unable to control the state of Liang that the latter could only support the former by assuring transport means.
