Abstract:
After the 1911 Revolution, the revolutionaries headed by Sun Yatsen launched an “EmperorHuangWorshipping” Movement. They advocated regarding Emperor Huang as the “Early Human Father”, adopting Emperor Huang’s calendar, eulogizing and worshipping him as a revolutionary banner. The movement called on people to fight for the goal of founding a democratic republic by establishing Emperor Huang’s Taoism as the primary foundation of Chinese culture. The “EmperorHuangWorshipping” Movement was culturally significant for it awakened selfconsciousness of people, so helped speed up the fall of the feudal cultural system based on Confucianism. Moreover, the movement resulted in shaping the revolutionary thoughts and views of Sun Yatsen and his followers and also was internally associated with Sun’s Three People’s Principles. Above all, the “EmperorHuangWorshipping” Movement made the longneglected Emperor Huang culture exceed the Chinese feudal times and revive in modern times.
