Abstract:
As the first province to respond successfully to the Wuchang Uprising and the first of northern liberated provinces, Shaanxi was the longest of all Chinese provinces in persisting in armed struggle and was still fighting a bloody battle with the most stubborn feudal force when the nation was united as a result of the dethroning of the Qing Court. Therefore, Shaanxi’s success in the 1911 Revolution not only spread the impact of the Revolution throughout northwestern China, greatly strengthening the revolutionary force and its impetus, but also distracted the main force of the Qing troops in northwestern China and attracted the Qing troops in Henan matching westwards, assisting the revolutionary troops in Hubei by softening the pressure upon the Wuchang front, and sped up the fall of the Qing Dynasty. Shaanxi’s independence took an distinctive and individual place in Chinese modern history for its influence on the whole course of the 1911 Revolution in China. Since the Revolt of New Armies in Xian and Shaanxi’s Liberation were both first amazing incidents in the 20thcentury Shaanxi, Shaanxi showed a great quantity of successful experience and characteristics in the Revolution in comparison with other provinces.
