Abstract:
With agriculture as the national foundation, ancient China showed great concern with construction of water conservancy. Throughout the several millennia of history, China constructed thousands of facilities of water conservancy, which were used for everyday water supply, irrigation, preventing floods and water transportation, playing an important role of economic life. Large quantities of sources show that facilities of water conservancy in ancient China went through great developments and changes and assumed diverse features in different phases of time in different regions. Many of these old facilities of water conservancy were of early origin and high content of science and technology, which represented agricultural civilization in ancient China to a certain degree.
