Abstract:
Prior to the outbreak of Hungarian Incident, to soften the domestic situation in Hungary, Soviet Union started by supporting the Lakesy regime and then substituted him with Gero, but her policy to Hungary remained. As a result, Soviet interference with Hungary in the early days was far from what she had predicted; on the contrary, it helped intensify inner contradictions of the Hungarian Labour Party, arouse intensive anti-Russian emotions among the Hungarians and further intensify the existing tension in that land. All this laid a hint for the "Hungarian Incident" that came some time later and raised the curtain for that tragic end.
