Abstract:
During the rebellion in the Outer Island of Indonesia between 1956 and 1958, US Central Intelligence Agency supplied a variety of military aids secretly for the rebel troops and carried out a series of military aid programs, including the “Intruder Action”, the “Hans Action”, and the “No. 1 Apple Action”. However, owing to scattered forces and poor command, the rebellion was soon put down by Indonesian government troops, hence a total failure of the concealed action of the Central Intelligence Agency. This failure of the concealed action exposed the problems in US policy towards Indonesia and helped US government to adjust its policy to the country by shifting its concern from the Outer Island to the Inner Island.
