Abstract:
A systematic theory of historical development of the Gongyang study, the view of three phases of historical development was established finally by He Lin, a scholar of Gongyang study in the East Han Dynasty, who illustrated the theory systematically based on the theory of three phases introduced by the forerunners of Gongyang study in Spring and Autumn. He interpreted the theoretical formula “the transmitted description of the society——the described society——the witnessed society" in Spring and Autumn as “the troubled society——the developing society——the prosperous society". His restatement of the view of three phases affirmed development of society as a continuously developing and advancing course from low level to high level, from turmoil to harmony and from savage to civilized, which contributed a complete system of theoretical considerations with regard to development of history to Chinese academic world.
