Abstract:
American Chinese poetry creation is an important part of overseas Chinese literature. The exploration of its poetic style shows a trend of the diversified development of contemporary Chinese poetry. Wang Xingchu’s free style poetry, photographic poetry and painting poetry creation, Fei Ma’s “short poem” writing and Yi Ping’s long lyric poetry creation are all the inheritance, development and powerful promotion of the modern free style tradition since the May 4th movement in China. Artistically speaking, Yi Ping’s long poem Auschwitz, Spring and Easter uses imagery to replace narrative and plot, compresses narrative elements of traditional long poems and notitalics lyrical elements to the long poem writing, which creates a unique long lyrical poem in modern Chinese poetry. The writing of ancient Chinese poetry and new poetry by Chen Zhongmei and others is the overseas spread and exploitation of the lyric tradition of classical Chinese poetry. From the perspective of poetic themes, the expression of globalized thought as “a community with a shared future for mankind” is a sign of the expansion of Chinese literary themes and thought. The significance of poems by Fei Ma, Ji Xian and Yi Ping’s Auschwitz, Spring and Easter can be seen in the history of overseas Chinese literature. From the perspective of modern Chinese poetry, the creation of modern Chinese poetry by American poets is not only one of the best texts for the overseas development of Chinese poetry, but also a successful demonstration of the modernity of Chinese poetry.
