Abstract:
The judgment sentence “zhi zhe (ge) shi(只这(个)是)” was often used during the Chan sect quotations in the Tang and Song Dynasties, which was a kind of special sentence pattern with emphasis. This judgment sentence was most frequently used in the Chan sect quotations in the late Tang and Five Dynasties, its frequency of usage gradually declined in the Song Dynasty. Its intensity of emphasis gradually enhanced from the late Tang and Five Dynasties to the Southern Song Dynasty. This judgment sentence was the inheritance and development of a similar sentence in the Chinese translation of Buddhist scriptures before the Tang Dynasty .In the Tang and Song Dynasties, its usage was not limited to Chan sect quotations secular documents also often used it. This judgment sentence gradually declined during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has completely disappeared in the modern Chinese.
