The African continent is a natural, historical and realistic extension of the “Belt and Road” Initiative (BRI). As the flagship project of the synergy between the BRI with development strategies of African countries, MombasaNairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which was opened to traffic on May 31, 2017, has been well functioning by now and witnessed a steady increase in terms of train traffic as well as passenger and cargo transportation, whose efficient, convenient and energysaving transport capacity would be a positive stimulation to Kenya’s social and economic development and subregional integration of East Africa. Stretching alongside the friendship road pioneered by Zheng He’s voyage, the SGR illustrates the comprehensive support of the ideas of “Five Connectivity” proposed by China to the independent development of Africa, exploring a ChinaAfrica cooperation mode which aims to facilitate bilateral ties on politics, economy, trade, and people to people exchanges through collaboration of infrastructures, and laying a solid foundation for building a stronger ChinaAfrica community of a shared future in the new era.
