Abstract:
The discovery of The Edicts of the Heavenly Emperor, which was a manuscript of the Ming Dynasty, has promoted the study on the history of the Tang Dynasty. Great progress has been made in the study on the edicts system of the early Tang Dynasty. However, researchers rarely analyze or even mention the quality of The Edicts of the Heavenly Emperor. Focusing on the compilation process of The Edicts of the Heavenly Emperor, this paper considers that The Edicts of The Heavenly Emperor was a submitted version to the emperor but not the published edition. This is an important and unavoidable problem to understand The Edicts of the Heavenly Emperor and the system of law and edicts in the Tang Dynasty.
