Abstract:
This article holds that there is a process of the emergence and development of popular literature from a state of unconsciousness to that of consciousness. Based upon this assumption, this article discusses the following six aspects: literary subconsciousness, aesthetic evolution from the oral and visual to the reading, the emergence of the idea of linguistic art, vulgar consciousness, literary genealogy, and the aesthetic consciousness of literature; and some problems arising from this process, finally aiming at laying some methodological foundations for subsequent in depth studies.
