Abstract:
The ancient legends about Yu(禹) recorded on the Chu bambooslip manuscript entitled the “Rongchengshi”(容成氏), pertains to calming the flood, and the implementation of tax.Two paragraphs on the bamboo slips describe Yu setting up flags and implementing the taxation after ascending the throne. These records can be supplemented with Yugong(禹贡) and the inscription on the Bingongbasin. This paper offers new arrangement and complementary notes on some problematic paragraphs and characters in Rongchengshi. On such basis, this paper discusses issues related to Yu implementing taxation.
