Abstract:
In face of the collapse of agricultural civilization and disintegration of village society, the confused modern civilization calls the significance of the country world. Deep in reflection and perplexity, literary works seem to be more sensitive than sociology and attempt to express the feelings of homeland attachment——imagination of the country, complex of small towns and village attachment. This modernistic picture is our starting point to think about the farmers’ morality and moral education. In fact, village life contains the farmers’ dream of his own kingdom, so homeland attachment is not only a type of feelings of life but a type of more worship, involving the system of wholesome values of the country world. In this connection, homeland attachment is not merely exclusive romantic affection to emigrants and men of letters, but a collective consciousness hidden in the farmers’ morality, both a moral heritage of agricultural civilization and the moral nature left to farmers by the country world. As the basis of the farmers’ cultural selfconfidence, homeland attachment acts not only as the necessary precondition of farmers’ moral education but as a reliable foundation of their moral acceptance. Urban “welfare” and rural “spirit” shape the moral plan for farmers of the new countryside and also the ideal picture of farmers’ moral education.
