Abstract:
As a leading means of scientific research in times of informationization, historical Geographic Information System(GIS) has been adopted by many disciplines. The path and method of construction of the historicalgeographic information, as historical researchers term it, has become a global concern. The present study, based on “Construction of the historical GIS about the Silk Road” as a major project of National Social Sciences Fund, expounds the value and significance of constructing the system of 2,000year historicalGIS of the Silk Road, including providing aid for upgrading the means of obtaining and researching the spatial information along the Silk Road in different historical phases, providing polybasic historical material support needed by the research to improve connection and share of the data bank of information about the Silk Road, and breaking the existing boundary between disciplines as an effective means to realize a multidisciplinary development of studies of the Silk Road.
