Abstract:
Liberal education conception advocates an ideological trend of respecting mans value, highlighting mans subjectivity and training wholesome citizens. In educational methodology, it emphasizes humane education by objecting to enslaving and materialistic education and treats people in a humane way. Unfortunately, however, in modern China, liberal educational conception occurred mostly as an educational conception in the air, existing only in the minds of intellectuals without forming a program of action. The reason for its failure is primarily absence of rational subject and spirit in China, which failed to offer a rational social order for liberal education. Even worse, there was a general irrational mood among Chinese intellectuals and broad masses of people.
