Abstract:
In today’s transitional China where health consciousness is prevalent, menopause has become a code word online rhetoric for crisis in middle-aged women. Menopausal discourse is increasingly dominate the everyday life of middle-aged women, aided by the rapid spread online. By means of analyzing new media representations of menopause, this issue revealed the interweaving power such as gender, new media technologies, capital has formed a scientifically-authoritive medical discourse on menopause. This study concludes that the construction of the crisis of middle-aged women is driven by the commercial logic of market economy in the transitional China, strenthening the order of gender which annihilating and discriminating middle-aged women.
