Abstract:
The theory of disposition was the key construction and basis of NeoConfucianism by the Chengs. A clarification of the Chengs differences in theory of disposition will help locate the logical basis for understanding of evolution and orientation of the Luo School. A critical analysis by combining “ontologydispositionfunction” into an organic integrity finds that they differ in the relationship between mind and reason, that is, whether mind is reason or reason is mind. This difference resulted in their further difference in theory of function: properly interpreting the classics to guide practice or adapting oneself to society and world.
