Abstract:
In the Tang Dynasty there were as many as 10 courts in the Daming Palace of Chang’an, respectively located in the Linde Hall, Zhonghe Hall, Qingsi Hall, Feilong Hall, the encampments of the Left Longwu Troops in East Inner Courtyard, the encampments of the Left Shence Troops in East Inner Courtyard, the southern end of the Longshou Pond in East Inner Courtyard, the Pear Garden in West Inner Courtyard, the encampments of the Right Shence Troops in West Inner Courtyard and Hanguang Hall in West Inner Courtyard. The cockfighting building was located in the north out of the Jiuxian Gate, south of which was the horseracing building. The female teaching house was situated in the east inside of the Yanzheng Gate of East Inner Courtyard, and was moved to the interior of the Yanzheng House. Moreover, there were several theatres in Chang’an in the Tang Dynasty, respectively located in the north of the Guanghua Gate in West Inner Courtyard, the female teaching house by the Penglai Palace, the northern Yichun courtyard of the East Palace, the northwest of the Music and Ceremony Office, and the south of the Yaoguang Building in the Huaqing Palace.
