Abstract:
The Collection of Danyang was an important poem collection compiled by Yin Fan, a scholar in the Tang Dynasty. However, as the work was lost long ago, few materials recording the life stories of those included poets were available. It is fortunate enough that some newlyunearthed epigraphs provide some new materials about those poets included in The Collection of Danyang, which, confirming to the existing library sources, can reveal the true account of some longpending doubts in studies of the collection. The Epigraph of Ma Ting offers a complete presentation of Ma Ting’s life story, and corrects the mistake that “Ma Ting was the younger brother of Ma Huaisu”, a longdominant mistake in the academic world. The discovery of Cai Xizhou’s epigraph made up for the deeds of the three Cais, Cai Xiyi, Cai Xizhou and Cai Xiji. Bao Chen’s epigraph helps to investigate the life stories and writing careers of Father and Sons of the Bao family, Bao Rong, Bao Ji and Bao He. These newlyunearthed epigraphs also provide materials about such poets as Ding Xianzhi, Shen Tanggou and Sun Chuxuan included in The Collection of Danyang as important clues for studying their official careers.
