Abstract:
Dai Biaoyuan composed a great number of collected works and contributed to Chinese academic history in many ways. Up till the imperial title of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty, Dai was unanimously regarded as the greatest of scholars in southeastern China. However, for the date Dai was appointed Confucianism instructor of the prefecture of Xinzhou, scholars differ: some thinking it took place in the 8th year, others insisting on the 6th year of Dade. After carefully examining the materials the two opinions related to and collecting the new evidences to investigate the accurate dates of his taking and leaving office and his service term and other cultural activities, this study concludes that Dai Biaoyuan was appointed educational officer in the 6th year of the imperial title of Dade, and took office as Confucianism instructor of the prefecture in the 8th year. Just as what was recorded in the History of the Yuan Dynasty, he left the prefecture of Xinzhou in the 10th year.
