Abstract:
The collection of the autonomous states in the Tang Dynasty took two forms, that is, collection in the capital and collection at the governorate. Since the dynasty had a great number of autonomous states and each of them had to spend large quantities of money in collection, the court had to restrict the number of collection officials and even cancel the collection qualifications of many remote states. Under such circumstances, the collection at the governorate in autonomous states became the main means of information exchange between the dynasty and its autonomous states and an important form of consolidating the imperial rule.
