RUC Launches Local DeepSeek AI Service

Renmin University of China (RUC) has deployed the full-scale version of DeepSeek R1 (671B), marking a major step in integrating artificial intelligence into campus operations. The advanced AI model is now utilized in various areas, enhancing teaching, research, and administrative efficiency.

DeepSeek, a leading domestic AI model, excels in natural language processing, knowledge-based Q&A, and content generation. With this deployment, RUC aims to streamline campus administration, support academic research, and improve access to educational resources.

On the first day of the new semester, RUC’s Party and Government Office granted DeepSeek access to over 40 university departments. A technical seminar was held on Feb.17th, where faculty and staff explored ways to integrate AI into school governance and workflow automation. Several "DeepSeek+" projects were launched to redesign administrative processes with AI-driven solutions.

The School of Mathematics has also leveraged DeepSeek to develop “Shu Ni Zui Ling”, an AI-powered teaching assistant designed to enhance learning experiences in mathematics.

Supporting research is a key focus of the DeepSeek deployment. RUC scholars are building domain-specific datasets to extend the model’s capabilities, enabling it to analyze academic resources, assist in interdisciplinary research, and execute specialized AI tasks. This initiative is expected to accelerate scientific discovery and foster innovation across disciplines.

During the Chinese New Year Festival, members of the Party and Government Office formed a DeepSeek Learning and Application Interest Group. Many staff members installed lightweight versions of DeepSeek on their personal computers, experimenting with knowledge graph construction, document processing, and governance optimization.

Deploying DeepSeek aligns with RUC’s broader strategy to enhance digital transformation and academic competitiveness. By integrating cutting-edge AI technology into campus life, the university aims to create a smarter, more efficient learning and research environment.

Looking ahead, RUC will continue to explore AI’s role in education, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The university is committed to expanding AI applications, reinforcing its position as a global leader in intelligent education and research innovation.
