On October 15, 2018, the first scientific advisory committee meeting of Nanjing University-University of Helsinki Joint International Research Laboratory of Atmospheric and Earth System Sciences was held in Nanjing University.
President Lyu Jian first expressed warm welcome to the domestic and foreign experts attending the conference on behalf of Nanjing University. He said that the JirLATEST was the first and the only international cooperation laboratory of Nanjing University approved by the Ministry of Education. Since its establishment, it had obtained a number of cutting-edge scientific research achievements and became an important platform for the double-class construction of atmospheric disciplines.
During the meeting, Chen Luhong, deputy director of the Science and Technology office of Nanjing University, read the appointment decision: Prof. Wang Minghuai of the School of Atmospheric Sciences was appointed as the director of the JirLATEST. Academician Fu Congbin and Professor Markku Kumala were appointed as co-chairs of the scientific advisory committee.
Prof. Ding Aijun, dean of the School of Atmospheric Sciences, former director of JirLATEST, and Prof. Tuukka briefly reviewed the 3-year achievements of JirLATEST on observation and model integration and international cooperation since its establishment. Prof. Wang Minghuai further introduced future development plans of the JirLATEST and expressed the need to build the laboratory into a center for collaborative research and academic exchanges. After that, experts attending the meeting gave constructive suggestions on the development focus and direction of the JirLATEST. In the concluding remarks, Academician Fu Congbin and Professor Markku Kumala pointed out the top priority of future development of JirLATEST was to improve the capability of the integrated observational platform.
