The two sides of JirLATEST successfully held the 1st joint autumn school between Nanjing University and University of Helsinki at Nanjing University in October 2017. More than 30 Finnish members, including Academician Markku Kulmala and Professor Douglas Worsnop, attended the school and gave lectures.
The course consisted of joint lectures, visit to SORPES station and intensive group work. Teachers from both universities including Prof. Markku Kulmala, Dr Taina Ruuskanen, Prof. Aijun Ding and Prof. Niewei delivered lectures on aerosol instrumentation, mass spectrometry data analysis, fluxes and exchange of matter and energy. They also gave students guidance on academic writing and presentations. During the course, the students worked in small groups and utilized aerosol, air ion, trace gas, meteorological and eco-physiological data measured at field stations in order to learn advanced data treatment and data analysis methods.
The course helped students gain a better understanding of filed observations and advance their data-analysis skills. Students passing the course were given a European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits certificate (to certify 3 credits equivalency of the course).
