Northeastern University: Steel Technology Supports High Strength And High Toughness of Bridge Steel

作者: Ding Ning 来源:Shenyang Evening News 更新日期: 2018-10-24

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the longest bridge across the sea in the world and the longest steel bridge in the world.

The oversized span bridge of the sea-crossing bridge has put forward demanding requirements on the high strength, weldability, breakage resistance, fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of the bridge steel.

Professor Wang Zhaodong from Northeastern University and his team have developed a new generation of controlled rolling and controlled cooling technology. It has established a comprehensive strengthening and toughening theory of fine grain strengthening, precipitation strengthening and phase transformation strengthening, which is centered on ultra-fast cooling, so that the steel structure can be refined by more than 35% and the size of precipitated phase is reduced by more than 25%, which meets the demands of high strength and high toughness of bridge steel. The "New Generation of Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology and Application of Hot Rolled Strip Steel" project of Northeastern University also won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2017.
