During October 23-26, China Rock 2020 - The 17th Academic Annual Conference of Chinese Rock Mechanics & Engineering was held in Jiuhua International Convention Center, Beijing. Prof. Feng Xiating, Vice-president of NEU, an academician of CAE, and Director of the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education on Safe Mining of Deep Metal Mines attended the conference and delivered a speech. This annual conference was sponsored by the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) and presented by CSRME’s branches and local societies. A total of 23 sub-sessions, 424 thematic academic reports and 5 technological innovation industrial exhibitions for technical training were organized.
Prof. Feng Xiating presided over the opening ceremony and made an invited report entitled Analysis Method, Software and Application of Localization of Rock Fracture Process in Engineering, introducing the process of R&D of CASRock - numerical simulation software of cellular automaton with independent intellectual property rights more than 20 years in the past .
During the conference, the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education on Safe Mining of Deep Metal Mines and the Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering of Sichuan Province jointly undertook the 19th sub-session activity under the theme of Theory and Practice of Rock Engineering Design. International experts including Prof. Resat Ulusay from Hacettepe University of Turkey, Chairman of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, Dr. Eda Freitas de Quadros, former Chairman of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, Prof. Suseno Kramadibrata from the Bandung Institute of Technology of Indonesia, Philippe Vaskou, technical adviser of Geostock SAS of France and other international experts respectively made an invited report, and 16 domestic experts were invited to deliver a special report.
Meanwhile, the society held the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee for Standardization. Feng Xiating was elected the honorary director of the committee, Prof. Zhang Xiwei from the laboratory was elected a member of the committee, and Prof. Wang Zhechao won the first Qian Qihu Award.
