On the afternoon of May 16, Liaoning Online Seminar on China Undergraduate Physicists’ Tournament (CUPT) 2020 was held. More than 100 teachers from Fudan University (FDU), Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Nankai University (NKU), Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Criminal Investigation Police University of China (CIPUC), NEU and other colleges and universities attended the seminar, which was sponsored by Liaoning Physical Society and presented by NEU.
Du An, Chairman of Liaoning Physical Society and a professor at NEU, delivered a speech on behalf of Liaoning Physical Society. First, he thanked the teachers for their long-term support to Liaoning Physical Society. Then, he pointed out that cultivation of innovative talents is an important part of education and teaching, and that it is necessary to continuously study the new changes brought about by the new teaching ideas and modes proposed at CUPT, so as to improve the quality of talent cultivation.
At the seminar, professor Yue Yongkang from FDU introduced FDU Delegation’s typical practice of students' ability cultivation in the process of preparing for CUPT, with the topic of “Students’ Ability Cultivation in Preparation for CUPT”; professor Fang Aiping from XJTU introduced the university’s practice and innovation training system which is CUPT-based, interest-oriented and suitable for the growth of students, with the topic of “Enhance University Students’ Practice and Innovation Ability based on CUPT”; and professor Hui Wangwei from NKU introduced the university’s electromagnetics experiment which integrates newmeasurement technologies and means, with the topic of “Preparation for the Electromagnetics Experiment in CUPT”.
Teacher Bai Hongliang from DUT and teacher Guo Xiaochun from CIPUC respectively delivered a speech with the topics of “Exploration, Practice and Reflection on CUPT” and “Exploration and Practice of Innovative Talent Cultivation in Public Security Universities and Colleges from the Perspective of CUPT”.
At the seminar, the idea of jointly developing and sharing the course of Basic Physical Modeling among colleges and universities in Liaoning Province was initiated. It is hoped colleges and universities in the new era should strengthen cultivation of students' scientific literacy around the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. College Physics, as a public basic course, should adapt to the needs of education and teaching reform in the new era. Colleges and universities should take CUPT as a platform, focus on improving the teaching effect of public basic courses, and comprehensively improve students' academic ability and comprehensive quality.
