Recently, the final results of the 4th National Innovation Experience Competition for College Students (NIEC) were announced. After qualification examination, online preliminary evaluation, and online defense review by the semi-finals and finals judging panels, the student works of NEU won 3 first prizes, 8 second prizes and 14 third prizes, with the number of shortlisted and winning works reaching the highest record over the years.
As one of the three major competitions of innovation methods, the NIEC is a five-star competition recognized by NEU. To promote the training and development of students' innovative thinking and enhance their innovation capacity and creativity, NEU has been adhering to the combination of theory and practice as well as the integration of in-class teaching and after-class activities. We offer special courses such as the 40 Innovation Methods: Opening the Thinking Box and the Engineering Technology Innovation Methods to all students, and carry out competitions such as the NIEC, the China TRIZ Cup College Student Innovation Methods Competition, and the College Student Innovation Method Application Competition. We have formed a three-level (university-province-nation) competition education system. In recent years, through reforming teaching methods and measures by promoting teaching through competitions and combining teaching with competitions, the popularity of innovation methods and the level of innovation method competitions for NEU undergraduates have been significantly improved.
