On October 20, the State Key Laboratory of Synthetical Automation for Process Industies held the 2023 Academic Committee Meeting in the comprehensive laboratory building by combining online and offline formats. Xiating Feng, the member of both the strategic steering committee and academic committee, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the president of NEU, along with Professor Tianyou Chai, the director of NEU academic committee, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the director of the academic committee of the laboratory attended the meeting. Heads of relevant departments at NEU, relevant persons in charge of school of scientific research and school of information, as well as relevant persons in charge of the laboratory and academic leaders were also presented.
On behalf of NEU, Xiating Feng delivered a welcome speech, expressing heartfelt thanks to all the experts and scholars for their long-term support for the development of NEU and the discipline of control science and engineering. Xiating Feng pointed out that the process laboratory, as an important supporting platform to facilitate the construction and development of control discipline, successfully completed the laboratory reorganization in 2022 and was successfully approved for inclusion in the national key laboratory construction program. In 2023, the laboratory carried out the major leading plan of "Integrated Automation and Intelligentization of Process Industry" in depth, undertook many major national tasks and achieved many landmark scientific and technological innovations, making new breakthroughs in serving the development of the university and making efforts to national sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening.
Xiating Feng emphasized that 2024 is the first year for NEU to embark on a new journey of the new century, and it is also a crucial year for the process laboratory to take the construction of a national key laboratory as a new starting point, gather intelligence to tackle challenges, and endeavor to take on national strategic scientific and technological tasks. The university will continue to provide full support for laboratory construction and ensure robust service guarantees for its development.
Tianyou Chai made a concluding speech, expressing heartfelt thanks to the members and experts for their long-term strong support and help, and said that the laboratory will carefully consider and implement the guiding opinions put forward by the members, further carry out mechanism and system innovation, and strive to build the laboratory into an important strategic scientific and technological force serving the national science and technology self-reliance.
The person in charge of the school of information spoke on behalf of the school, thanking the members for their concern and guidance on the scientific research achievements and construction and development of the control discipline, and said that the school will continue to support the construction and development of the laboratory, expecting the laboratory to produce more high-level scientific research achievements.
During the meeting, experts attending the meeting spoke highly of the results achieved by the laboratory in 2023, visited the research and experimental platforms such as the integrated industrial intelligent system for decision-making and control and the AI computing platform developed by the laboratory, and reviewed the laboratory's 2023 annual work report and the work plan for the next five years, exchanged and discussed around the laboratory's construction in 2023, the results and progress achieved, and the main work directions in the future.
