Recently, the results of the 2022 MCM/ICM were announced. NEU students won a total of 90 international awards, including 1 Outstanding Winner, 5 Finalists, 21 Meritorious Winners, and 63 Honorable Mentions. Among them, the Outstanding Winner team of NEU also won the AMS Award, which is the first time NEU has won this honor.
Instructed by teacher Zhu Xiaochen from the College of Information Science and Engineering of NEU, the team composed of Xu Yongchao, Lang Xinyu and Dai Xiaolong was rated as an Outstanding Winner and won the AMS Award. The AMS Award is a special honor granted by AMS to one team respectively selected from the Outstanding Winner teams of each topic. Only 6 teams (3 from MCM and 3 from ICM) won the honor, accounting for about 0.02% of the total number of the teams participating in the 2022 MCM/ICM. Teacher Zhu Xiaochen’s team is one of the three teams from the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) winning the honor.
Additionally, five teams from NEU won the Finalist, including the team of Pan Leiyu, Ding Keran and Xu Dingkun instructed by teacher Jiang Linying from the Software College, the team of He Tengxin, Xiao Long and Wei Chengtai instructed by teacher Han Chunyan from the Software College, the team of He Yaxing, Yi Guangmo and Liu Jialei instructed by teacher Sheng Ying from the College of Sciences, the team of Men Xuanyu, Wen Shizhao and Ren Yi instructed by teacher Qian Jinhua from the College of Sciences, and the team of Han Cheng, Hou Difei and Zhou Tianhong instructed by teacher Yu Yang from the College of Information Science and Engineering won the Finalist.
A total of 272 teams of 816 undergraduate students from 15 colleges and schools of NEU participated in the 2022 MCM/ICM, which is the largest scale in recent years.
MCM/ICM, sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application, is an international mathematical modeling competition and the most influential mathematical modeling competition worldwide. Starting in 1985, it has been held for 38 sessions. Every year, outstanding students from universities around the world would participate in the competition. It covers many fields such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine and security. The 2022 MCM/ICM, held from 6 o 'clock on February 18, 2022 to 9 o 'clock on February 22, 2022 Beijing time, attracted a total of 27,205 teams from universities all over the world. The proportions of the Outstanding Winner and the Finalist were only about 0.16% and 2.51% respectively, while NEU has been awarded the Outstanding Winner for two consecutive years.
