Machine Vision and Robotics Lab ( MVR Lab), relies on the National Key Discipline "Machine Design and Theory" major of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Northeastern University.Over this years, the research office has always adhered to “condensing academic direction, innovating academic characteristics, aiming at the academic frontier, and focusing on major needs” to take the road of academic development of interdisciplinary (mechanical, information, and metallurgical), and established the “Liaoning Province Energy-saving Metallurgical Equipment and Intelligent Detection Professional Technology Innovation Center".

  Since 2004, under the funding of the major basic research project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National 863 Program, etc., the focus has been on the detection technology of the surface defects of the strip steel, and the pattern recognition and classification methods of the surface defects. Research on other issues has made breakthroughs in important core technologies and progress in research theories, and formed a batch of phased research results and applied technologies.The developed steel coil edge defect detection equipment has been applied to the hot rolling production line of Shougang Qiangang.From 2016 to 2018, the first generation of NEU escort home robot, Dabao, was developed. The robot has multiple functional modules such as a three-dimensional vision system, a compliant motion system, a stereo auditory system, and a cloud learning system.The laboratory has successively established relations with foreign universities such as the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble in France, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Loughborough University in the UK and other foreign universities to carry out joint training of doctoral students and cooperative scientific research in this research field.
