Recently, the final of the 15th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (CMC) came to an end at Shandong University. NEU's participating students have won 3 national first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 6 third prizes. NEU has also won the second prize in Excellent University Organization (the only award-winning university in Liaoning).
CMC is one of the largest and most influential mathematics subject competitions in China, organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society. The competition was officially included in the school's competition management system in 2023, and recognized as a five-star competition by the school. This competition is divided into three groups: mathematics for senior students, mathematics for junior students, and non-mathematics, attracting more than 280,000 students from a total of 1,108 universities in 32 competition regions across China to actively participate. After multiple rounds of selection, more than 1,100 students successfully qualified for the finals. The NEU attached great importance to this competition and formed a team of guiding teachers to provide systematic pre-competition training for participating students through various forms such as centralized training, group discussions, Q&A, guidance by category, and analysis of past exam papers. After fierce competition, Zhijie Yu from the College of Sciences won the national first prize in the mathematics (for senior students); Yihang Zhang from the School of Computer Science and Jiabin Luo from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Qinhuangdao won the national first prize in non-mathematics; Lingyun Gao from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Qinhuangdao won the national second prize in mathematics (for junior students); Buqiang Xu from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Senyao Xiao from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and Xianglan Liu from the School of Computer and Communication Engineering at Qinhuangdao won the national second prize in non-mathematics; Zijun Zhou and Yixiang Geng from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Qinhuangdao won the national third prize in the mathematics (for junior students); Zengda Liu from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Yujuan Li from the Software College, and Jinlang Gu and Haowen Li from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Qinhuangdao won the national third prize in the non-mathematics.
