NEU Made Significant Progress in the Study on Advanced Metal Structural Materials

编辑: Lei Chang, Yuhui Wang 来源:NEU 更新日期: 2022-11-26

Recently, the research group of Jia Nan and Shen Yongfeng from NEU’s School of Materials Science and Engineering proposed a universal design strategy for high-strength and high-toughness face-centered cubic (fcc) structured metal materials, that is, the successful introduction of interstitial atom-driven local chemical order (LCO) into fcc alloys with complex compositions through simple thermomechanical processing. This alloy strengthening and toughening strategy has been successfully applied to FeMnCoCr series multi-principal alloy and austenitic stainless steel, providing a new idea for developing high-performance and low-cost metal structural materials. The research result titled Interstitial-driven Local Chemical Order Enables Ultrastrong Face-centered Cubic Multicomponent Alloys was published in Acta Materialia.

The first author of the paper is postdoctoral fellow He Zhufeng, and the corresponding authors are Professor Jia Nan and Professor Shen Yongfeng. In 2021, as a doctoral student, He Zhufeng developed a method to obtain multiple heterostructural high-entropy alloys, providing a model for the preparation of super-strong, tough and low-cost alloys at room temperature and deep low temperatures. The above research has received support from the NSFC and the Basic Scientific Research Funds of Central Government for Universities, and gained assistance from the Analysis and Testing Center of NEU in the characterization of spherical aberration by electron microscopy.
