Profile

Junjie Shi, male, Han ethnicity, born from Suizhou City, Hubei Province, working as associate Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the School of Metallurgy, Northeastern University, and a

His main research areas include thermodynamics of phase diagrams in metallurgy and materials, the design and development of metallurgical slag systems, high-value utilization of urban minerals, electrochemical corrosion protection of metals, and high-temperature protective coatings. He has led or participated in over 10 projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program (intergovernmental cooperation projects and young scientist projects), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, the Natural Science Foundation of Liaoning Province, and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (second batch special support (pre-station) and general projects). He was awarded the second prize of the Metallurgical Science and Technology Award in 2024.

Until now, he has published over 70 academic papers, with more than 30 in Q1 and Q2 (JCR) as the first or corresponding author. Among these, the paper titled “Phase Equilibria of MgO-Al2O3-TiO2 System at 1600 °C in Air: Emphasis on Pseudobrookite and Spinel Solid Solution Phases” was honored with the 2023 “Spriggs Phase Equilibria Award,” an international academic award given to only one paper globally each year.

He serves as the guest editor for the special issues “Waste Management and Recycling for Sustainability” in the SCI journal of Sustainability and “Metallurgy-Processing-Properties Relationship of Metallic Materials” in the journal of Crystal. Additionally, he is a young editorial board member for journals such as Chinese Nonferrous Metallurgy and Steel & Vanadium. He also serves as a committee member for the International Process Metallurgy Symposium (IPMS) in Finland. Additionally, he has long been a reviewer for several prestigious journals, including Ceramics International, Minerals Engineering, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B.
