Recently, ShanghaiRanking released the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) of 2021. Of 37 subjects of Huazhong University of Science and Technology on the list, three subjects are in  the top ten in the global ranking, namely Energy Science and Engineering, Instrument Science, and Communication Engineering. Of these, the Communication Engineering of EIC ranks the 7th in the national ranking and 9th in the global ranking.

ShanghaiRanking´s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects of 2021 covers 54 subjects in five major fields, including Science, Engineering, Life Science, Medical Science and Social Science. The universities on the list are those that have published a certain number of papers in particular fields from 2015 to 2019. Object academic indexes in accordance with international standards are adopted by the GRAS to conduct the ranking of world universities, including the number of papers published in important journals and top journals, category normalized citation impact, international co-authored papers, and the number of authoritative awards earned by teachers.
