Personal Profile
Dr. Cao Qiang, is a professor in Wuhan National Research Center of Optoelectronics of HUST, a professor in Data Storage Storage Laboratory of the School of Computer Science and Technology of HUST and a supervisor of doctoral candidates. He received his bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from Nanjing University in 1997 and then studied at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He received his master's degree in Computer Application in 2000 and his Doctor's degree in Computer Architecture in 2003. From July 2008 to July 2009, he was a visiting scholar at Nebraska-Lincoln University in the United States. His main research fields include computer system and architecture, large-scale high-performance storage systems, novel storage principles and systems, green long-term storage, near data processing, optical storage, FPGA development, etc.
He is a distinguished Member of CCF, member of CCF TCARCH, standing committee member of CCF TCIST, senior member of IEEE, senior member of ACM. Undertook. He has presided or participated in more than 10 national research projects, including the national key R&D project “Multi-level Long-term Coding and Data Channel for Holographic Storage”; 7 projects supported by NSFC, namely “Research on an Efficient Heterogenous Consolidation Architecture and Mechanisms for Emerging Hybrid Storage”, “Study on Architecture and Mechanism of Key-value Direct Storage”, “Research on Energy Consumption Optimization Method of Large-scale Data Storage System”, “Research on the Theory, Method and Realization Technology of Low Entropy Storage System (LESS)”, “Autonomous Storage Intermediary Agent Research”, “Research on the Theory and Realization Technology of Evolutionary Storage System (ESS)”, “Unified Storage (USN) Theory, Structure and Experiment”; 3 “863” projects as “Design and Implementation of Tiered Storage System” , “Design and Implementation of Continuous Data Protection” and “Storage Virtualization and File System Research”; 3 “973” projects as “Research on the Construction Method of Efficient Storage System”; “Research on PB-Level Massive Network Storage System”, and “High Speed Channel Research in Holographic Storage”; and 1 CNGI project “Intelligent Storage System Based on IPv6”. He has published more than 100 papers in international conferences including FAST, ATC, Eurosys, SOCC, IPDPS, ICS, ICDCS, DSN, ICPP, DATE, etc., and academic journals, such as IEEE Trans. On Computer. IEEE Trans. On Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM Trans. On Storage, JNCA, etc. He has applied for or authorized more than 60 patents, 30 software copyrights. He wrote and published monographs “Principle and Design of Massive Network Storage System” and “Design and Optimization of Erasure-correcting Code Storage Cluster System”, which won the second prize of Technology Invention of Hubei Province in 2008. In 2015, he was the first in the world to develop the PB-level large-capacity automatic optical disc library and won the gold medal in the 43rd International Invention Fair of Geneva . He was supported by the 2015 Nanjing 321 Leading Scientific and Technological Innovation Talent Program and the 2017 Jiangsu Mass Innovation Talent Program. He has cultivated 20 doctoral students and 40 master students.
