Dr. He Kun, professor and supervisor of doctoral candidates of School of Computer Science and Techology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, is the Deputy Director of Institute of Computer Science Theory, and Director of John Hopcroft Laboratory (Laboratory of Data Mining and Machine Learning). He is Deputy Director of Theory Committee of China Computer Federation, Senior Member of ACM, Senior Member of IEEE, Distinguished Member of CCF. In 2011, he visited the Department of Management Science and Engineering of Stanford University in the United States for one year. There he cooperated with Professor Yin-yu YE, winner of the Von Neumann Theory Prize in combinatorial optimization, linear and nonlinear programming. From 2013 to 2018, he visited the Department of Computer Science of Cornell University as visiting associate professor and visiting professor for many times. There he cooperated with Professor John E. Hopcroft, a Turing Award winner, academician of American Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering, Academy of Arts and Sciences and foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in social network and deep learning.
In 2006, he won the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Hubei Province.In 2008, he won the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award of Hubei Province. In 2018 he won the third prize of Natural Science Award of Hubei Province. He won "Three Aspects of Education" Award in the academic year between 2016 and 2017, the honor of “My Favorite Headteacher” and “Excellent Headteacher” in the academic year between 2015 and 2016, and “Supervisor of Outstanding Bachelor's degree Thesis Winner” of Hubei province for many times. In 2016, he was selected as one of the Global 200 Outstanding Young Scholars (Heidelberg Laureate Forum) of the Abel/Fields/Turing Award Foundation. He was selected as Visiting Professor of Mary Shepard B. Upson at Cornell College of Engineering for the 2016-2017 academic year. He has presided over a number of national natural science projects and provincial- and ministerial-level projects, and published more than 100 papers in authoritative journals and conferences at home and abroad. He won the Award for Best Paper of International Conference Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming (2021).
He was invited to be a member of the Procedure Committee of international conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, IJCAI, and a member of the Advanced Program Committee of IJCAI, and paper reviewer of a host of authoritative academic journals such as TPAMI, TKDE, Theoretical Computer Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Computers & Operations Research, Science China, Chinese Journal of Computers, Journal of Software. He was Co-chair of the Procedure Committee of the 2017-2020 CCF National Conference on Theoretical Computer Science (NCTCS).

Group Name: John Hopcroft Lab (Data Mining and Machine Learning Lab)
About the group: John Hopcroft Lab (Data Mining and Machine Learning Lab), in collaboration with Turing Award winner Professor John Hopcroft of Cornell University, focuses on basic theories, models and algorithms of deep learning, machine learning, social networks, reinforcement learning, combinatorial optimization and their applications in the fields of computer vision and natural language processing. With Professor Kun He as the Group leader, the Lab conducted in-depth cooperation with its honorary professor John Hopcroft, visiting professor Chumin Li (French Distinguished professor), and visiting Professor Baining Guo (Executive Vice President of Microsoft Research Asia). The group members include Associate Professor Yan Jin, lecturer Zhengzheng Xiong, postdoctoral fellow Boyu Li, and about 40 graduate students. The team guided two undergraduate teams of AI scientific research competition team, ACM-ICPC school team and undergraduate scientific research interns, and won several awards of artificial intelligence competition at home and abroad and the national Gold Medal of ACM-ICPC competition. In 2018, one of ACM school teams advanced to the world Finals and made excellent achievements. The group guided undergraduate students to publish papers at international top conferences for many times. In recent years, the group has presided over 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 1 Youth Science Foundation project. The group published more than 150 papers in NIPS/NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, ICDE, WWW, AAAI, ICDM, ECML-PKDD, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE), ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data (TKDD), IEEE Transactions on Parallel & Distributed Systems (TPDS), IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems Theoretical Computer Science, Chinese Science, Journal of Computer Science and other authoritative journals and conferences . It has won 1 first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Hubei Province and 1 third prize of Natural Science Award of Hubei Province.
