On June 8, HUST-NTU Academic Lecture Series was successfully held in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, HUST. At the invitation of Prof. Wang Yan of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering HUST, Wang Rong, Full Professor and President’s Chair of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore, gave an invited lecture entitled “Development of Novel Reverse Osmosis and Forward Osmosis Membranes: from Lab Study to Commercialization”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Wang Yan, and more than 70 students and researchers from universities such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nankai University and other domestic universities participated online.

In this lecture, Prof. Wang Rong presented the latest R&D in RO and FO membranes at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She introduced the analyses of desired characteristics of RO/FO membranes, fabrication of novel RO/FO membranes by incorporating aquaporin water channel proteins and special bio-molecules into the membranes, and performance evaluation under different application scenarios. In the end, she stated that the scale-up productions of newly developed RO/FO membranes were demonstrated via collaborating with industrial partners.
