On March 25-26, the 6th SKKU & HUST Bilateral Graduate Student Workshop and Annual Academic Conference for Graduate Student was successfully held in the form of offline and online sessions. This conference was jointly held by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the School of Chemical Engineering of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). More than 400 teachers and students from both universities participated and exchanged their ideas during this two-day conference.
The opening ceremony
In the morning of March 25, the opening ceremony of the conference started. The Dean of Graduate School Ma Yanlin, the Director of Office of International Affairs Chen Jie, the Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Zhu Jintao, the Deputy Secretary of CPC Wu Jiang'e, the Vice Deans of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Tan Bien and Liu Hongfang from HUST, as well as the Dean of College of Engineering Nae-Eung Lee, Prof. Jong Wook Bae of School of Chemical Engineering from SKKU, and other participants from both universities were present at the ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, the Dean of Graduate School Ma Yanlin gave an opening speech and expressed her appreciation and support for the cooperation between HUST and SKKU in deepening open education and exploring new cooperation mode. She also expressed her expectations for further development and cooperation between the two universities in the future.

The Director of Office of International Affairs Chen Jie appreciated the fruitful achievements of the two universities in international exchanges and cooperation, and wished the two universities can work more closely in building a high-level cooperation platform and achieving international development.

The Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Zhu Jintao mentioned in his speech that due to the COVID-19 situation, the conference was held in the form of offline and online sessions. Regardless the difficulties, this conference would not only provide a valuable opportunity for teachers and students of the two universities to exchange ideas in the context of the post-epidemic situation, but also enhance the friendly relationship between the two universities and lay a solid foundation for further long-term cooperation. In the invited report session, professors from both universities including Prof. Gu Yanlong, Prof. Xia Baoyu, Prof. Yang Xuan, Prof. Zhang Heng, Prof. Tang Conghui, Prof. Jin Woong Kim, Prof. Seok Joon Kwon and Prof. Nam Gyu Park shared their research progress and academic achievements with all the audience.

For students, the conference consisted of oral session and poster session in three main fields including bio, energy and materials. 58 graduate students from both universities shared their latest research progress and progress with the audience. After each report, the professors and students discussed together and the report was evaluated by the judges in terms of content, expression and other aspects.
Research achievement sharing
In the afternoon of March 26, the two-day conference was close to end. At the closing ceremony, the Vice Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Tan Bien gave a closing remark. He said that this conference was very successful. It made the relationship between the teachers and students of the two universities closer, and left many good memories for both parties. He also expressed his hope for the two universities to cooperate more closely in academic visits and international student cultivation. At last, Prof. Jong Wook Bae expressed his gratitude to all the participants and his expectation for the next conference.

Since the first HUST-SKKU Bilateral Graduate Student Workshop in 2015, HUST and SKKU have been working closely in academic cooperation and mutual exchange. This time, the conference not only enhances the friendly communication between the two universities, but also provides a valuable opportunity for professors and students from both sides to share their research results and latest progress.
