2019年12月14日，由云南大学和中国区域科学协会空间经济学专业委员会联合主办、云南大学经济学院（会计学院）和云南大学非洲研究中心联合承办的“空间经济学国际研讨会（2019）暨中国-南非经济合作与社会发展国际研讨会”在云南大学经济学院报告厅隆重召开。大会由云南大学经济学院院长、空间经济学专业委员会副主任兼秘书长梁双陆研究员主持，云南大学社科处处长杨绍军致欢迎辞，中国区域科学协会副会长、空间经济学专业委员会主任委员、中山大学管理学院梁琦教授致开幕辞，空间经济学专业委员会副主任委员、哈尔滨工业大学数学学院田波平教授作大会总结。

南非籍博士生Lizl Steynberg作报告

    我校南非籍博士生Lizl Steynberg受到主办方邀请，发表了题为“The Nexus between Higher Education, Internationalization and Economic Development”的大会主题演讲。其结合刘兵教授所指导的博士论文研究进展，报告了中国-南非在教育国际化方面的路径差异与合作契机，引起了与会代表们的紧密关注和广泛讨论。结合此次参会，博士生Lizl Steynberg还推动了我校与南非萨瓦内科技大学进一步合作的开展，并充分展现了我院在国际教育方面的办学经验与国际留学生方面的培养成果。

The International Conference on Spatial Economics under the theme Economic Cooperation and Social Development between China and South Africa took place on 14 December 2019 in Kunming, Yunnan province.  The conference was hosted by Yunnan University’s School of Economics and the Center for African Studies in collaboration with the Professional Committee of Spatial Economy of the Republic of South Africa.  The conference was chaired by Prof Shuanglu Liang, Dean of the School of Economics of Yunnan University and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Professional Committee of Spatial Economy of the Republic of South Africa.  The conference was structured to foster discussion between participants around the core themes of economic cooperation and social development between China and South Africa.  This was achieved by small group debates and questions on presented papers following each session under the guidance of a panel reviewer and a moderator.

Under the supervision and guidance of Prof Liu Bing and Associate Prof Li Yuan, and with the support of the Southern Africa-China Science, Technology and Education Association (SETEA), a keynote speech entitled “The Nexus between Higher Education, Internationalization and Economic Development” was presented by Lizl Steynberg.  The keynote speech relates to her PhD research at the School of Economics and Management.  The presentation highlighted the internationalization positioning status of the Republic of South Africa in relation to the People’s Republic of China.  It further emphasized the need for reconceptualization of higher education internationalization and suggest a maturity level framework as a potential development instrument.  In addition to the conference presentations, the chance to interact and meet with other scholars, industry professionals and technical experts was an extremely valuable experience.  The conference also afforded Lizl an opportunity to be included in the spatial economy networking group to strengthen the economic and social development initiatives between the two countries.
