Fujian Research Institute of ENT

This institute was established in the middle 1950s; in 1984, the Research Office of Otorhinolaryngology of Fujian Medical University was founded; and on this basis, in 1996, Fujian Research Institute of Otorhinolaryngology was  founded under approval from Fujian Provincial Science and Technology Committee. This subject is one of the first batches of key medical subjects of Fujian Province, a subject for preferential development backed up by Fujian Province Department of Science & Technologies, a key subject of Level 3 Class A hospitals, a boutique course of Fujian Province, a subject for key construction of Fujian Medical University. Our institute is a base for state medication clinical research of otorhinolaryngology, the Combined Teaching and Research Office of Otorhinolaryngology of Fujian Medical University, and an organization associated with the Branch of Otorhinolaryngology of the Fujian Medical Society and the Newborn Babies Hearing Screening & Diagnosis Center of Fujian Province.

Our institute is now carrying out clinical, science research and teaching work in the sector of otorhinolaryngology and has made prominent accomplishments. Domestically, it is in a leading position in terms of treatment of deafness, artificial hearing, tumors of otorhinolaryngology, basicranial diseases and lateral basicranial diseases. Its staff has published over 300 articles and 2 were enlisted in Nature and Science, world top professional medical journals; they have won 45 prizes of science and technology awards among which 1 won the state-level Science & Technology Advancement Award; besdides, 17 of them won department-level, province-level science and technology awards. Serial Clinical and Basic Reasearch on Otosclerosis hosted by Professor Yi Zi-xiang won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award. In 1986, the institute became eligible for granting master’s degree. By now it has nurtured nearly 40 outstanding postgraduate students and 20 candidates for the degree.
    Now the institute has 59 beds and a whole set of medical equipments for otorhinolaryngology treatment; it has 19 doctors and 25 nurses and technicians; among these people, 15 have senior professional titles, 5 are PhDs, 7 are Chinese overseas students, 1 is PhD supervisor and 5 are postgraduate supervisors.

Professor Zhang Rong, a PhD supervisor,is the director of the institute. He is acting as the Party Committee Secretary and Vice President of the University and is a senior committee member of the Academy of Otorhinolaryngology of the  Fujian Branch of China Medical Society, a national committee member of the Academy of Otorhinolaryngology of China Medical Society, an expert of the Expert Committee of the Anti-deaf Cooperation Center of WHO, a member of the editorial board of a couple of medical academic journals like China Ears Nose and Throat, China Head and Neck, etc. He is an expert in curing deafness, dizziness, nasal allergic reaction and  artificial transplant of cochlea.
