The 4th China-Switzerland International Seminar on Evidence Science was held successfully

The 4th ISSSES, hosted by the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and jointly organized by the Sino Swiss Joint Research Center for Evidence Science and the University of Political Science and Law of China, was successfully held online from September 7th to 8th, 2022. The seminar focuses on "Current Directions for Science, Evidence, and Judicial Proof.", With the theme of Evidence and Judicial Proof, a critical examination was conducted from a cross disciplinary perspective on the current issues and challenges of evidence law and forensic science through pre conference workshops, specially invited reports from Chinese scholars, specially invited reports from Swedish scholars, and exchanges among young scholars.

In order to further promote the exchange of judicial practice and judicial theory between China and Switzerland, the conference invited scholars such as Ronald J. Allen, a professor at Northwestern University in the United States, Edward J. Imwinkelried, a professor at the University of California, Davis School of Law, Thomas Yunlong Man, a professor at Peking University School of International Law, and Paul Roberts, a professor at the University of Nottingham School of Law in the United Kingdom, to bring exciting pre conference workshops to the attending guests.

On the afternoon of September 7th, in an enthusiastic speech by Professor Christophe Champod, Dean of the School of Criminal Sciences at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, the 4th ISSSES International Symposium officially opened. He reviewed the fruitful achievements of previous international seminars and the in-depth exchanges between the University of Political Science and Law of China and the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, and expressed deep expectations for this international seminar. Professor Wang Xu, Dean of the Evidence Science Research Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, delivered a speech, reviewing the gratifying achievements made by the institute since its establishment. Along with China's internationalization development path and the continuous deepening of judicial reform, the cooperation between China University of Political Science and Law and the University of Lausanne in Switzerland in the field of evidence science has always adhered to the original intention of "pursuing truth".

The conference includes multiple units, including special invited reports from Chinese scholars, special invited reports from Swedish scholars, and the China Switzerland Youth Scholars Forum.

This seminar covers both theoretical and practical dimensions. The attendees gained a deeper understanding of the importance of precise and fair decision-making in all fields of justice and law enforcement through comparative research and international exchanges.

Finally, Professor Zhang Baosheng, former Vice President of China University of Political Science and Law, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. During this seminar, forensic science experts from both China and Switzerland, evidence law experts from the United States and the United Kingdom, researchers from research institutes, and government officials all conducted in-depth discussions around the conference theme from different perspectives.
