From January 29 to February 3, 2013, a CUPL delegation headed by its President Huang Jin visited the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Chinese University Hong Kong (CUHK), City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and lastly Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU). Meanwhile, the CUPLHong Kong Alumni Union was successfully held in Hong Kong SAR.

On the morning of January 30, President Huang Jin and his party visited the University of Hong Kong and met with Prof. Johannes Chan M. M., Dean of HKU Law School, and its Vice Dean Zhang Xianchu and other faculty members. That same afternoon, President Huang and CUPL delegates visited City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and held talks with CityU faculty members, such as Prof. Wang Guiguo, Dean of CityU Law School, its Vice Dean Prof. Gu Minkang and their colleagues. Both sides expressed their wishes to launch further in-depth cooperation in certain fields such as the exchange of teachers and students and academic exchanges. The two sides also vowed to open up new cooperation models in the future.

On the morning of January 31, President Huang and his entourage visited the Hong Kong Shue Yan University. In the company of Prof. Chiu Man-chung, Head of Department of Law and Business, HKSYU, President Huang had cordial talks with the respected 94 year old Chancellor, Dr. Henry Hu H. L. (Dr. Hu), who strongly supported cooperation between HKSYU and CUPL. Dr. Hu has generously utilized HKSYU resources for the benefit and convenience of the exchange of CUPL faculty and students onthe campus of Shue Yan University. In the afternoon, President Huang and other CUPL delegates visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong. There, President Huang conducted friendly talks with CUHK Vice President Prof. Fok Tai-fai and exchanged in-depth ideas with Prof. Christopher Gane, Dean of that university’s Law School, on matters such as the exchange of undergraduate students, joint cultivation programs for doctoral candidates and collaborative academic research. Both sides agreed to sign a formal cooperation and exchange agreement in the near future.

On the evening of February 1, CUPLsuccessfully held the CUPLHong Kong Alumni Union. More than 70 distinguished guests attended the meeting. Attendeesincluded the Honorable Mr. Justice Chan of Hong Kong’s Court of Final Appeal, Mr. Paul Shieh, W.T., Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Mr. Dieter Yih, President of the Law society of Hong Kong, CUPL alumni, and a variety of local celebrities from legal, financial, educational circles, as well as other related fields. Mr. Rimsky Yuen, Head of Department of Justice of Hong Kong SAR, sent a congratulatory message for the special occasion. The attending public figures and other alumni spoke highly of CUPL's educational achievements as well as the outstanding quality of CUPLgraduates. They unanimously expressed the desires to further support CUPL’s development and to carry out in-depth cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation, academic exchanges and so on.

During the visit, President Huang and his entourage also conducted talks with well-known local personalities in the circles of politics and business. He also used the time to visit with over ten CUPL students currently interning at the Hong Kong High Court and the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal. It is the first time that law majors from a mainland law school have been granted internship opportunities at Hong Kong SAR courts, which is indeed a pioneering achievement. The Hong Kong court of Final Appeal, Hong Kong Law Education Foundation and Hong Kong Shue Yan University give strong backing to this internship program. Students expressed that, after only two weeks’ internship, they have already reaped benefits.
This visit to Hong Kong deepened the existing cooperation between CUPL and local universities, built connections with all walks of life in Hong Kong and reached consensus on multiple cooperative developments with prominent local figures. Not only did all these greatly lift CUPL’s reputation and influence in that area, but also laid a solid foundation for further profound corporation between the two sides.
