At the invitation of the China Centre of the University of Oxford, Associate Professor Xu Yan from the College gave a lecture on the Reform of the Legal System of Taxation in China in the Last Two Decades and Future Prospects to the scholars and students on 26 Nov, 2021.

Xu mainly reviewed key time nodes and significant aspects of China's reform of the legal system of taxation in three developmental stages over last 27 years. From the tax reform in 1994 to the Corporate Income Tax Law in 2008 and then to the Personal income Tax Law in 2019, the tax reform in mainland China has been carried out in several stages. An improvement of the Chinese taxation system in the future constitutes an important part of the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021‒2025) for National Economic and Social Development. It is expected that the reform of the legal system of taxation in the future will further exert the regulatory function of taxation to promote social equity.

This lecture was the fourth Scholar Sharing Events in this terms held by the China Centre. Xu’s speech in Oxford University was conducive to boost the College and the University’s international branding.
